911’s touch of Class

Every four seconds our inbox glows with an email from a Porsche tuner promoting some gruesome modified 911. Today we received something more official and less hideous from Porsche.
It’s called the Sport Classic, and it’s taken the chaps in Stuttgart about three years to finish. Maybe that’s because they spent so many hours locked in their museum, pinching bits from old cars for inspiration. Or maybe they were distracted by their dedication to beard cultivation.
But we’ll forgive the tardiness because it’s actually quite cool. There’s a double-domed roof like the original Batmobile's and perched on its boot is a fixed ducktail spoiler, just like the one from a 1973 Carrera RS 2.7, according to the Beards. It gets bumpers like those on all-wheel-drive Porsches (that’s the Turbo) and some lightly redesigned lights.
And, of course, it gets some classic ‘Fuchs’ style alloys. Possibly our favourite kind of rims, those Fuchs.
There’s a sprinkling of special touches in the cabin, but the best changes lie beneath all that. The Sport Classic gets a special Resonance Intake System with six switching butterflies (that’s vacuum controlled flaps to the Beards) which, along with some other bits of engine tweakery, increase the power by 23bhp over the Carrera S to 402bhp.
Just 250 will be made worldwide and the Sport Classic will cost – wait for it – £140,049. Ouch.
That sort of money will buy you a 911 GT2. So while you dream, why not watch Jeremy thrash one around our track?

Hey why not make a cayman sport classic that would look so much better, give us one less 911 to choose from that already huge list, and would be a whole lot cheaper !

I think that engine lid is just the one off the new GT3 RS but with no alu' spoiler. I think it looks great, but I'd only pay £140k for one when it becomes a classic all of its own. But yeah, should be white with red Carrera stickers and wheels (loving the Fuchs - are you supposed to pronounce it like it's a dirty word?). But really though, wouldn't you rather just have a '73 RS?

In fact, if you buy this car, you're an idiot. On Auto Trader right now, for instance, is a perfect restored '73 RS Touring, white with blue details, RHD, for £5k less. Plus it's a classic car so cheaper or maybe even no tax and classic car insurance. Do not buy this new pretender. Get a proper Ducktail (but watch out for 'dead ringers').

Lets face it, it doesn't matter what the price is, they will sell them all within weeks, possibly days. You could get an identical effect with aftermarket wheels, bodykit and an engine remap though...

Is anyone else getting sick of the 911 every week theres a new one with different lights, tyres or coloured stitching!! This one looks like the driver backed into someone carrying a surf board, the spoiler looks ridiculous, are they trying to make it look like it was designed by some chav on need for speed? Come on porsche pull your finger out let the 911 die and dust of those pencils and design something now!!

i agree w/ mike; the DB9 is not for the track and is for people who want to look wealthy and although the Gallardo can be used at the track, it's for people who want a fast italian super car but can't really handle one. this porche is expensive but it's a back to basic porche

For people with more money than sense....personally I hate Porsches, if I had that kind of money to spend on a car , I'd easily spend it on an Aston Martin, Lambo or Ferrari.

from a far view, it does not look any different from any 911, and it can cost like nearly double

The ducktail on this looks too small. To be a real piece of nostalgia, it needs to dwarf the back of the car completely.

I thought it looked pretty good, the styling from the back at least looked a *little* bit different...then i saw the front and it still looks like a frog I really can't see any logical reason for buying this car at this price...

Ok, so the price is a little silly but thinking of top 10 garage (money no odds) this is straight in there sitting right next to the original 1973. Those Fusch wheels are amazing! This is a Porsche for Porsche purists. Those with Boxters, Caymans etc. need not apply.

So let me get this right...£140k for a (s)lightly upgraded 911, with a double domed roof, new alloys, a spoiler, turbo-esque bumpers, slightly different lights and a brown leather interior? I'm sorry, but to me that represents insanity on a biblical scale...........
