As TopGear.com revealed back in March, Renault is bringing back Gordini.
The French manufacturer will unveil the Twingo Gordini later this month. The mini hot hatch will reach the UK early next year, followed by the Clio Gordini and, most likely, a Megane Gordini too.
Now, we know what you're wondering: how hot are they going to be? Hotter than the Renaultsport versions?
Er, no. The Gordini models look likely to remain mechanically identical to the Renaultsport cars, and will instead be differentiated by posher colours and wheels and trim.
Which is a bit disappointing, really. Renault says the Gordini brand will ‘inject additional joie de vivre' into its line-up, but we never felt any of Renaultsport's offerings to be lacking in joie de vivre. What they were lacking, clearly, was a 250bhp Twingo and a 300bhp Clio, but it doesn't look like Gordini will provide this.
Still, we should get some good-looking hot hatchbacks in classic racing blue. How about incorporating those retro quad headlights too, Renault?

What a shame. I was hoping for some mad cars which make you laugh out loud. Don't bother bringing it back if it just means the car is blue.

And here I was hoping Gordini would become Renaults answer to the Abarth, John Cooper Works, VXR phenomenon... Now it seems like it will become Renaults answer to the Citroen DS-series: stylish luxury wheels only! Aaaaaarrrrgghh!!!!

NOOOO! Renault, your current RenaultSports are the modern equivalent of the 'S' version of cars such as the 8! And the Gordini was an even hotter version! Even crazier! Don't tell me the Gordini brand means nothing more than a fancy paintjob to you! Give us a Megane with 300 bhp - we want crazy Gordinis, just like the old ones! Rally cars for the road! Please!

gordini? who or what is that? stupid. just making the cars look different and with the same performance, stupid. they could just have the normal cars on sale and with the option of different colours and trims.

Way to go, you're talking colours and you've got a black & white picture... A quick google image search on Gordini and yeah, a nice colour - if a little base blue. Reminds me of Bugatti blue to be honest.
