Frankfurt show: Lambo Reventon Roadster
There have been many extreme cars in Lamborghini's history. But this, say Lambo bosses, is the most mental of the bunch. This is the Reventon Roadster.
The drop-top version of the jet fighter-inspired hypercar has just been unveiled on Lamborghini's show stand, and it looks, in a word, awesome.
It'll be limited to just 20 units - of which Lamborghini says a dozen or so have already been sold - at a cost of £970,000 each.
That's a lot of cash, but you do get a lot of power: like the hard-top, the Roadster is powered by Lambo's 6.5-litre V12, putting out 661bhp and catapulting the Reventon to 62mph in 3.4 seconds. Top speed? A terrifying 205mph. With the roof down.
The Roadster weighs in just 25kg heavier than the coupe, and features a pair of hidden pop-up rollbars, which will deploy if you're daft enough to test the Reventon's aerial capabilities.

i could do the same thing with a set square,some sheet metal,a hammer and then a chainsaw to chop the roof off..it's all so angular..it's still stunning though..

Sure it's a striking looking thing, but i'm fed up with the Lambo design, it works for Porsche, but the Murecielago (How to spell?) & The Gallardo model have been with us for too long. Just look back at the Diablo, Countach And the Miura, COME ON! Give me one more great epic looking car! I'm not saying the Murc & The Gallardo are ugly, they are just getting pretty old to me :) Anyone else feel the same way? (This might still be the best looking Lambo though..)

Wait, 661bhp? i.e. 670PS? So it has the Murcielago LP670-4 SV engine? DO WANT. Cars like this are only cooler as roadsters. It just adds a cherry on the madness cake. The Zonda is a good case in point. Interesting colour - I usually despise silver, but the flat finish makes it really work on that geometric bodywork. Bellissima! Oops, that's a quid in the Italian cliche swear-box...

Cappe, the Murcielago is to be replaced next year, after a 7-year lifespan, unfortunately taking a 40-year-old engine with it. Lambo's big cars usually have a long lifespan like that - Miura lasted 6 years, Countach lived an amazing 15 years, Diablo 11 years, Murci 7. All great cars, though. Plus this Reventon Roadster eclipses even the Veyron GS in coolness.

ZondaFAscariA10, you are soo right.the réventon is amazing, but the zonda cinque roadster is more powerfull and lighter, and we saw what the F did to the veyron on the track. Now think in a improved version zonda cinque, that more powerfull engine, reviewed aerodiniamics, lighter, new sequencial transmission. . . Its amazing. And Pagani will just produce 5, not 20 like lambo. Still there, the lambo is amazing, taht v12 rules. . .

Time to book another sight-seeing trip to the factory in Sant Agata. Was there March 2008 and saw TWO Reventon's: one in the 'car park' (which had a damaged side-skirt, and I was ushered away very politely with 'No Speaka Ingles' when asking what happened!) and another actually half built on the production line! It was being worked on as we walked through! Truly one of the best days of my life!

its a lovely car, but i feel that in the current crop of million pound supercars (veyron, one-77, gt by citroen et al) it lags behind in a rarity factor because its too much like a murcielago and probably identicle from the driving seat.

Why? Lamborghini aren't exactly struggling for business at the moment. They produce some of the most desirable cars on the planet without having to resort to this sort of thing. Yes it's beautiful. Yes it's jaw droppingly powerful and no doubt makes the most amazing noise, but....really..why? And at close to £1m you've got to ask is it worth it? How far is it going to push the envelope? Is it a Concorde moment...? Don't get me wrong, I think it's astonishing, but really? It seems like a very expensive cheapshot at headline grabbing.
