Richard Hammond

23 October 2008 - 11:00

Radio star

You might know that Richard Hammond started his career in radio (hilariously, on a local radio show called the Late Night Love In, but we won’t dwell on that).

The microphone didn’t do justice to his dashing good looks though, so he got in front of a telly camera instead. And we’re glad he did, cos Top Gear looks better with him on it.

But today, Hamster went back to his roots and made an appearance on Simon Mayo's show on BBC Radio Five Live.

He chatted about the new series of Top Gear (we’ve got the trailer for it here on TopGear.com, so take a look), as well as his new book, and spent a large amount of time being lightly grilled on his thoughts about speed cameras.

He also admits to being a dreadful show-off - as much as Jeremy and James - and Oliver, the Opel Cadet he likes so much, gets a mention too, obviously.

The VW Passat comes under fire also, for being driven by people who always tailgate on motorways, and Richard talks about the best wee he's ever had (don't ask).

If you missed it, you can have a listen for yourself on the BBC iPlayer.

Or you can watch some of it here and here:
