Charity Roll-over

Phantom bidder raises $1.6m for US charity

Rolls-Royce Phantom Drophead

We expected the Rolls-Royce Phantom Drophead Coupe to attract a bit of a premium when deliveries begin later this year, but stumping up more than double its list price seems excessive.

Of course, this act of financial gluttony took place in America, and it was all for chari-dee, so that's alright.

The well-heeled buyer from Naples, Florida does get the first Drophead Coupe in the US, and $1.6 million (£818,800) of the total $2 million paid at the auction goes to a local children's charity.

The $2 million price paid for the Drophead Coupe is thought to make it the most expensive new car ever sold in the US.
