Video: new SSC Tuatara pics

Silly name, great car. Will it be quicker than the Veyron?

This, you may remember, is the Shelby Super Cars (SSC) Tuatara. And we've just been sent a selection of new pictures. There's also a video slideshow, which you can watch by clicking below (sorry about the music).

You'd be forgiven for needing a little reminder about how important the Tuatara promises to be. If SSC's to be believed, it'll beat the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport (which, of course, once made James the fastest man ever) and become the fastest production car in the world.

See more pics here

To heave itself up to the benchmark, it'll be using a 1,350bhp engine, which gets from 0-200 in under 16 seconds. You can see the Ultimate Aero (using the same engine) hooning here. And remember, before the Veyron SS came along, the Aero was the fastest road car in the world.

There's only one thing. As Jeremy pointed out on the show, it's pronounced TWA-tara. Does this earn it a place in our Best Worst Car Names in the History of Ever gallery?

Of course it will be faster than the Veyron. That's the whole point of it. But will it be BETTER than a Veyron? That remains to be seen. It's certainly prettier than the Germanic jellymould hypercar, although the unnecessary "speed holes" in the interior are iffy and the square 'wheel is a bit "Sci-Fi Austin Allegro"...

Really? What company would call their car Twit-Ara (How Jerod Shelby pronounces it himself)? It's a stupid name. I'm sure that it's actually said like Too-A-Tara, which is a nice reference to the ugly little tuatara lizard. Come to think of it, this is an ugly little car, too.

Nice to see the yanks build a good looking car, but I think top speeds are getting really stupid now, how many of the owners will be able to find a road where they can actually get it up to the top speed or manage it at that speed?
