GT-Rally
This is the GT-R Targa, a rally-prep version of Nissan's awesome Godzilla from American tuning firm Stillen.
It features just about every performance bolt-on, with a new exhaust, revised ECU and a whole bunch of extra shiny engine bits boosting power from the 3.8-litre twin-turbo V6 by 134bhp to a whopping 611bhp. The 0-60mph run stands at 2.9 seconds, half a second down on the road car's 3.4-second time.
The GT-R Targa is far lighter than the road car, too, with its stripped-out interior, lightweight racing seats and carbon fibre body panels. It'll clock the quarter-mile in 11 seconds flat.
Stillen plans to run the GT-R in the Newfoundland Targa rally, a 1,400-mile, all-road race across Canada. We're a little disappointed that it doesn't feature any gravel or dirt sections, though - just imagine the GT-R sliding between trees, dust cloud billowing behind it, men in bobble hats scattering to either side...
Which got us thinking. Ignoring all those pesky WRC regulations, what road cars would you like to see on the rally circuit? We're thinking Return of Group B, but even scarier...

porsche 911 turbo rally? just to fuel the nissan-porsche battle seriously tho i'd like to see an m3 or an r8 going rallying, especially since audi made its name with the quattro in rallying, that would be sick!

Porsche obviously. Someone did a season in a Ferrari (308GTB I think??), so Ferrari should be in! Gallardo already has 4WD and isn't too big. And Tony Pond rallied a Merc 450SEL so an AMG Black could be interesting :-). And for tight and twisty tarmac rallies (thinking Corsica and the like), bring back the Mini - a JCW or MINI Challenge model.

I live in the good old British colony of Newfoundland and Labrador and just wanted to post to say thanks for mentioning the Targa Newfoundland Rally which is starting on September 12th to the 19th and is sure to be exciting with many great racing entrants. I look forward to watching the GT-R going sideways down the semi-paved roads out around the bay as I typically follow Targa through the test stages, on a couple of days of running and also during the ceremonies and charity AutoX event at the end. I heard that racing 'legends' (Ken Block being one) hasn't entered yet since it is a tarmac only event but you need to see the condition of some of the roads to judge that :) There have been many interesting cars over the years and some regulars like a Caterham, Alfas, old BMWs and Porsches, several new and old Mini's as well as Lotus Exige, Mitsubishi Evo X and the venerable Subaru STI's. Take a trip over and you'll see 7 days of the best racing in North America right on my doorstep.

MPV rallying!!! On the cars i'd like to see rallying, AC 427 or 289, XKR, Exige, RX-8, probably a few more i cant think of atm. And a Suzuki Cappuccino just for the comedy value...

I'd like to see the JCW Mini vs Fiat 500 Abarth. That would be amazing. BTW the west coast (British Columbia) looks to also be staging a tarmac Targa next year if all goes well. I should likely be entering it if I can sort out which car to use. Would love to have a go in an Exige but we have an '86 CRX caged and ready gathering dust in the garage that might just see the light of day again for such an event.

Rally... mmmm, we can easily say anything impossible, but what about a Lotus Exige? It's short wheelbased, it's highly manoeuvreable, and we do not need to stick much carbon fibre on it as it already looks Group B.

Seriously, I think the GTR, and any AUDI, would be too expensive to run in a full WRCC season... On the other hand, I would make it mandatory for every car manufacture to have a racing department and rake part in any world championship they saw fit. I would love to see the GTR and the R8 compete in a world GT1 championship...just so I could have the pleasure of witnessing the Corvettes destroy them...

All Corvettes have dropped out of GT1, mate. In GT2 they will be detroyed by the Houston Texan Ferrari GT2 Risi team. Besides only a GTR so far has been taken on a good endurance rally on the scale the stillen has done.

IronicalBalls - I was talking about the creation of a GT1 World Championship, without those ridiculous prototypes of the LMS and ALMS. Just think, it would be greatest motor sport event ever (Vettes, Astons, Jags, Ferrari, Lambo, GTR, RX8, the return of the Vipers, the R8 and so on...). It would smash F1, in Europe, and NASCAR, in the States... As for Endurance Rallys...who cares? It's not a proper motor sport. As exciting as the Lada/Posche that entered the Paris-Dakar a couple of years ago. You just dump tons of money into a project, put a plastic shell on the thing and call it whatever you want...even Tata or those Korean thinguis could manage that...

@NorthWolfeCND- There will be a GT world championship next year, with cars built to slightly adjusted rules. The Corvette, Aston and MC12 will be racing, along with Ford GT, Nissan GT-R, and Audi R8. This championship will be replacing the current FIA GT Championship. Corvette's destroying competitors? Did Aston not beat them at LeMans in 2008! Rally Cars? The Lotus Exige has competed in British Rallycross before, so that would be easily done. Bring back Ferrari's as well.

@aston#008 - Thanks for the reply. Would you happen to know of any place where I could find the rules for this knew championship? As for the Vettes, they lost one in seven, not to mention 8 ALMS championships - no car can always win and that is the way it should be. The more the merrier, I just get pissed when certain manufactures leave a championship so they don't have to compete against major commercial rivals. With that in mind I salute the efforts made by Aston Martin, wish more manufactures had their commitment and balls. Death to Formula 1!!!

The Maserati MC12 will be allowed to race for one year in the new championship, the Aston DBR9 and Corvette for two years. This is because not enough manufacturers are entering with new cars (economic downturn etc...).

Hmmm... Ariel Atom would be nice, and a Caterham R500, gotta have the new Shelby GT500, Challenger and Camaro, and maybe a Charger too... (Yes i like muscle cars and lots of others too) SLS AMG would be immense... and a TVR Cerbera Speed 12. I think that would make a good WRC (I LOVE that GTR.. I WANT one)

No offence to those living on Newfoundland, but I have seen Targa Newfoundland on the television, and, to be brutally honest, it's very tame. Any european professional rally driver would trash the competition in more or less anything, even an old Saab. If Ari Vatenen entered the Targa Newfoundland with his Mk2 Escort, he'd dominate. And he'd put on a great show while going broadside round most corners.

no mater what people say rally cars should always be small hatchbacks with tiny engines, that give ouy so much power F1 cars will be running away screaming with fright. remember the lancia deta s4 and peugeot 205 T16 EVO2 etc...

Wow, that's pretty cool. Although of course I had to double-check the pic after reading "GT-R Targa". As for scary rally cars (Rallycross and hillclimb cars to one side I assume), the 911 used to rally, how about a 997.5 Turbo WRC, or the rebirth of the legendary 959? Or a jacked up Koenigsegg CCGT (who now have access to Saab's XWD system after all)? So many possibilities...
