The rumoured Toyota-Subaru coupe isn't exactly flying into production. But if Subaru needed any inspiration to build a proper hardcore coupe - a VW Scirocco R rival, maybe - this must be it.
This is the Subaru STI concept from Lars Martensson - an independent 3D designer who spends his weekdays creating rendering for video games - and we want it to happen.
OK, so it's hovering somewhere between a road-going coupe and a WRC contender, and there are a few elements that aren't exactly production viable - clearing the small children out of that bonnet scoop at the end of a long journey is going to prove tiresome in the long term, we fear - but who cares?
Subaru hasn't exactly been on a hot design streak recently - we're looking at you, Impreza and Tribeca - and this lovely concept, littered as it is with 80s design cues, could be just the tonic.
We're picking up subtle hints of Lotus Esprit, Lancia Stratos and Honda CRX - what can you spot in there?

Ugly as hell. The side profile reminds me of a friend's 1988 Honda Civic.
