The moment James May broke the production car land speed record last year in a Bugatti Supersport has clearly upped the competitive driving stakes among our global Top Gear presenters.
Take Tanner Foust, our colleague from Top Gear US. He spent the weekend in a rally-prepped Rockstar Ford Fiesta, flying over 70 foot jumps to take first place in round two of the Global Rallycross series in Washington. Oh, and he had a dislocated shoulder. And he finished ahead of a field that included four-time Swedish Rally champion Andreas Eriksson.
Not bad... We'll just leave this video here so you can enjoy the highlights:
"There was a point in the second to last lap where I felt the shoulder pop, but the EMT people did a wonderful job taping the tar out of it and I could barely move it and I think that is what needed to happen to keep it in. Yes, there's a lot of adrenaline in this sport. Wow, what a race," said Tanner afterwards.
If you're over in the US and fancy catching the next round, it's at Pikes Peak in Fountain, Colorado on June 17-18.
Tanner and the rest of the Top Gear US team will be back on the History Channel later this year - we'll bring you all the details here on TopGear.com as we get them...

Characterless, very temporary design. And what about the older folk looking for a non-SUV with easy entry / exit? Creating a useful niche, and then ditching a successful recipe - not wise.

Why is it called 'Global' if it's only in America?

Sorry, but TGUSA does NOT have the same character or Rappor that TGUK does. Aka the ORIGINAL Top Gear. Also, TGUSA totally botched The Stig Intro. NOT COOL. I'll stick with TGUK...

Sorry, but the current edition TGUK does NOT have the same level of car reviews that the original TGUK had, AKA the ORIGINAL ORIGINAL Top Gear. Also the star is fatter and has less hair. NOT COOL. I'll stick to watching reruns of the original Top Gear on YouTube...

@LastOnSunday - because the competitors are international. We tend to refer to events based on the character of the players. That is why we call some of our champions "world champions". In baseball, for instance, all the best players in the world come to the United States/Canada to play.
