iQ up
Toyota has gone and done it. Yep, it has dropped a massive lump into the iQ. All things are relative, of course, so the new 1.33-litre unit probably won't blow your mind. But it is a whole 33 per cent bigger than the dinky 1.0-litre that's been in the car until now.
You can still choose the smaller engine, which we've never found to be particularly gutless. Still, we'd never say no to a little more shove. The new engine has 98bhp, taking care of 0-62mph in 11.8 seconds and rocketing on to 106mph. By which point, the Mondeo man behind you will be swearing violently as he desperately tries to squeeze past.
Environmentalists can relax too, because the 1.33 has a stop/start function and a claimed 58.9mpg with 113g/km C02.
Now all we need is a lairy bodykit and a rude exhaust. The Scion iQ should do it.

How did they fit this engine in. It must have almost identical dimensions as the smaller engine as from what I have heard, there really isn't much spare room at all in it.

Hmmm, Mercedes C-class 220CDI 170HP achieves exactly the same MPG figures. Twice the OOMPF, Twice the car. I think Toyota failed.

USAF1FAN, you know that's because it weighs about 100kg and is tuned purely for speed, right?

I've had an iQ for six months now. For city driving AND motorway driving, it doesn't need a bigger engine. I'm dissappointed with Toyota for ruining the iQ's green qualities. C4_4life, I had one of those Mercs. Great car indeed, but you're missing the whole point of an iQ. OOMPF isn't planet friendly. i'm unashamedly biased about the iQ having been an Audi and Merc guy for ten years. It's a great car to drive and Toyota have made great engineering strides to build it. I'm as tall as Jeremy Clarkson and have no bother for space. I've even travelled in the back. As for motorway driving, I went over 100 miles from Brum to London earlier this week, followed an Aston Martin ALL the way. Our roads are just too stuffed these days, why spend all that money on classic cars you just can't get the best from them? Opinions differ hugely about being "Green". I'm one who feels strongly about changing our ways, and I'm proud to drive an iQ.

I agree Theoriginalstig, I have owned my iQ2 for a couple of weeks now and I'm very happy with it's performance and mostly it's economy and bear in mind I sold my M5 to buy one.

Woah, a whopping 1330cc! Toyota must've gone absolutely mad! Despite this mighty cubic capacity though, if I were going for a little Toy, I'd still rather have an Aygo.
