You havin' a scarf?
Meet the Lord of Yamaha Adventures. Or to you and us, ‘a bike in a scarf’.
Unveiled at the Tokyo motorshow, it’s actually called a Super Tenere and it’s one of those big adventure-type bikes usually found between the legs of Ewan or Charlie.
Tenere bikes have been around for years, pummeling dunes on the Dakar rally. This one is a concept and won’t go very far without an engine (those exhausts are floating in thin air at the moment) but when it arrives next year it will have a big V-twin. And hopefully, some bodywork so stop your arse sagging to the floor.
It borrows from the world of cars too. So it has a driveshaft rather than a chain, ABS brakes and even traction control to help fat blokes ride over sand without spinning big rooster rails of dust into the air.
So it should do well on the Dakar, or wherever the Dakar is actually held next year, with those desert bandit looks and headlights peeping through that headgear like devil eyes.

I have no idea what to think of this bike, actually.. I like motorbikes, but this thing.. ..I don't know. It's got the sort of design I'd put on a vase, or a birthday ornament.. ..not on a bike.

Pretty much an awkward design. Not the best thing I have ever seen, but not bad either. The drive shaft thing is something pretty new to me when it comes to bikes :O

First off, the 2010 Dakar is limited to 450cc bikes (some 690cc bikes will be allowed - however, they must have a restrictor plate). So, you'll never see this Yamaha compete in the Dakar. Second, this is obviously concept bike - hence the scarf and floating bits. The motor is rumored to be a parallel twin - 1100cc, which should be awesome!!. The drive-train is confirmed to be shaft-drive; however, this does not allow riders to change gearing to suit their tastes or varying conditions. However, it will prove to be more reliable vs. chain drive, in addition to fewer maintenance issues. Traction control is great in concept - but on gravel, it can be down-right dangerous. The inability to throttle steer a bike [on gravel] in a compromising situation can have adverse effects. Overall, it's great to see Yamaha's evolution of a classic - but it would be nice to see a racy version of this bike (i.e. chain drive, no traction control and big suspension). I'm not sure what to think. It's kind of like an invisible man who puts all the clothes on he can find, to make himself seem normal. I like the way it looks, though. Kind of ninja-ish. I would buy one if it looked exactly like that, (with an engine of course), and I could sit on it. I like it.

Plenty of bikes have had shaft-drive for ages, it isn't new idea, For instance BMW bikes nearly always shaft drive.

It's a... kinda... well, can't find the word. You shouldn't ride that when it's windy or else you are going in the sky and second, can't ride this in the rain, it's going to shrink third, don't jump, you'll pass through it completely. Then after, use it on cold autumn day, you won't be cold under. So it's not that useful.

on a pedal bike ur chain comes of at, what 10 mph, so what happens if ur chain comes off on ur motor bike at 90 mph!? and why are pedal bikes chains and motor bikes chains on the opposite side? this thing is trully the wierdest thing i have seen all year! not quite as homosexual as all the other motor bikes... IN THE WORLD!!!* *as jezza would say.

though just like other bikes, u will be unable to enter a light drizzle with out emerging out on the other side in a morge with ur spleen in someone else, and ur liver in a laboratory!! as for the brain, well if u have a motor bike u never really had one any way.

its just hidious and the worst designed bike in the world . u would xpect much more than this form yamaha form the past designs which were like picasos drawings which were epic. but not this one its just not yamaha i think it was designed by a porche designer.
