What is it?
New Ranger promises to handle any challenge you can throw at it and even drives like a normal car now. Still not refined, though.
Handles like a car, actually. The steering is light and precise, making it feel wieldy. The ride is better than before, but it's far from perfect. Considering its remit, this isn't a surprise.
The 2.2-litre diesel produces 148bhp and will hit 62mph in 12.3 seconds, though be warned that it can get a bit rattly when pushed. Still, it's responsive at speed and you can drive along on those 277 torques with ease.
On the inside
Huge load area makes it the best in class - you're talking a 1,152kg payload and a towing capacity of up to 3.35 tonnes. A big trucker. Feels solidly put together too, which is reassuring.
At 33.2mpg, it's not the most economical, but then it does weigh over two tonnes.
