The minimum system requirements for this site are as follows:

  • Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Vista, Mac OS X
  • 800 MHz processor and higher
  • Flash 9 and higher
  • 56k internet connection and higher

If your computer meets these requirements and a game is not working it is most likely that either your Internet browser’s settings or the Unity, Flash or Shockwave player is the problem. Please be aware of the following:

  • The site requires Java, JavaScript and Cookies to be enabled in your browser’s preferences
  • Ad-blocking software, firewalls or security software may effect the site’s performance
  • The security zone setting of your Internet browser may be excluding the site
  • The games may require the latest version of Flash, Shockwave or Unity

There are lots of ways to find a game to play. If you know the name of the game, the quickest way is to use the search field in the navigation bar at the top of the page or above the games index at the bottom of the page. Start typing the name and the matching games will be presented to you. The games index lists all of the games available on the site so is another quick way to search.

If you’re looking for a certain type of game you can use the categories menu in the navigation bar. Once you’ve found a game you like, more games in that category will be recommended to you.

If you’re just looking for the latest, highest rated or most popular games then the Top Ten module on the Games Home page is the quickest route. Use the filters on the top right of the module to sort the results.

No. You can play all of the games on the site without registering. You will need to register if you want to enjoy the community elements of the site. Partner sites may require registration. BBC Worldwide are not responsible for the content of third party websites.

Registration is completely free and once registered you’ll be able to:

  • Comment and share games with your friends
  • Earn XP and see how you rank against other players
  • Get speedy access to your favourite games
  • Receive exclusive updates on new games, telly clips, cool new cars and blogs from the Top Gear presenters

You have to be aged 13 or over to register. To make it as quick and easy as possible you can use your AOL, Facebook, Google, Twitter, Yahoo or Windows Live ID account. This will provide most of the information we require and you only need to fill out a few additional fields to complete your registration. If don’t have an account with any of these services you can still register by entering your details in the form provided. Use the black “Register” button at the top right-hand side of the page to get started.

You can change your BBC Worldwide account settings including your username from your profile page. Go to ‘My Profile’ and click ‘Edit’ in the Bio section.

The information in your Bio is never visible to other users. You can change the privacy settings for the other elements in your profile by using the privacy buttons next to the section titles. Items that are public will be visible to anyone, items that are private will only be visible to you.

You need to be logged in to change your profile image. If you have a Facebook account you can import your profile image. If you don’t have a Facebook account or wish not to use that image you can select one of twenty images provided.

Follow these steps:

  1. Log in
  2. Go to "My Profile"
  3. Click on "Change Profile Image"
  4. Click "Use Facebook Picture" or select one of the profile images below
  5. Click "Save"

If you like us to delete your account, make a request using the Support form. We will respond to confirm that your account has been deleted.

You do not need to be logged in to share a game but you will only be awarded XP if you are. Click on the icon of your chosen social network, displayed underneath the game. This will launch a new window where you will confirm your identity. Once completed, the game details and link will be published to your network.

You must be logged in to use the rating system. You can rate a game by visiting the relevant game page and clicking on the stars to submit your rating. You can change your rating at any time.

You must be logged in to use the comments system. You can comment on a game by visiting the relevant game page and submitting a comment in the box below the game description. You may optionally choose to share your comment on Facebook. All users must comply with the Code of Conduct. If you see content that you feel breaches this code, you can to report it to our moderators for review.

All of the download games are available for the PC. Not all of them are available for the Mac. If a download game is available for the Mac, a link to the download page will be shown in the game description.

All of the online games that are playable on the Top Gear site are free. You may choose to play games provided on external suppliers’ websites. These games offer an optional paid element. You can download a free trial of all of the download games from the Top Gear website, after which you may choose to buy the full version on the external suppliers’ website. You can add a game to your favourites by clicking on the “+” heart symbol on the game page. You can remove a game from your favourites by clicking on the “-“ heart symbol on either the game page or in the Your Games module on the Games Home or My Profile pages.

XP is an abbreviation of experience points. They are awarded for your activity on the site. The highest scorers will appear in the XP Leaderboard.

Your rank is a calculated by how much total XP you have earned since you registered in comparison with other players. You can improve your rank by earning more XP.

Not all games are integrated into the XP system. You can find details of the XP awarded for each scoring band in the XP tab of the game pages.

You can see the XP you have earned in the ‘Your XP Activity’ module on your profile page. It provides details of each activity, the XP you earned for it and your overall XP total.

You can see your scores in the ‘Your Scores’ module on your profile page. Only your highest score for each game is stored.

The XP Leaderboard is based on the XP players have earned across the site. The Game Leaderboard is based on the high score players have achieved for a single game.

Not all of the games on the site are connected to the Game and XP Leaderboard systems. Where the game is not connected you will still be awarded XP for launching the game but not for your score.
