Honda Accord Tourer

Practical boot, good diesel and a well-made interior, but the Honda is too dull.

Additional Info

  • As a car that does everything, I like the Accord. As a car I’d like to own, I don’t

How about a Hyundai i40 estate? Just as dull, but with a longer warranty.

What is it?

Honda’s booted version of the Accord saloon. The Japanese want to try and force the Accord upmarket to take on BMW and Merc, but it hasn’t succeeded.

The diesel engine is, make no mistake, excellent. and good enough to take on BMW. But the chassis is too dull, and the steering too lifeless to make the Accord exciting. Pity.

On the inside

The build quality is superb, and more than a match for rivals, but the higher-spec models come festooned with buttons all over the steering wheel. And some of the hi-tech safety devices just begin to annoy after a while.

No fears here. Hondas should always be reliable, but the CO2 and mpg figures could be better. 129g/ km and 48.7mpg aren’t great.
