Seems odd to say, but it's taken a lot of time, planning and hard work to get us to the middle of nowhere. So it's probably worth a little bit of background as to why I'm currently sitting writing to you from what amounts to a very posh tent on the continent of Antarctica - one of the world's harshest, bleakest and all-round least-forgiving environments.
