Top Gear On Ice: Audi A1 quattro
A tiny 249 bhp A1 quattro. Excited? You should be.

Which it does. As long as that direction is - as in our case - sideways. The Stig isn't holding back, which means we're never really heading forwards. The A1 faces a knife-edged problem when it comes to ice-drifting, simply because of its meagre wheelbase. The thing that makes it quick to turn and housefly-agile - the short distance between the wheels - should also make it snappy. Basically, the longer the wheelbase, the longer you have in which to react to the slide. A car like the A1 - especially with quattro and on ice, should turn on you like an angry drunk, fast and brutal. But it doesn't. It feels absolutely smashing.
