Top Gear On Ice: Range Rover Evoque vs Audi Q3

Do these suburban show-offs have the all-weather traction to match their pseudo-suv overcoats?

For some, especially speechless beings dressed in white, this wouldn't be a problem. He'd simply chew out the circuit boards. And with all the gadgets turned off, the Audi revels in its playful side, happily provoked into a slide until the traction control catches you (it can't be fully severed). The Evoque is more of a challenge, prone to understeer due to the extra mass and slower steering, though once you get the hang of it and turn off all the controls, it'll pirouette all day long. But this was a tough experiment. These two are both very capable of handling the wintry demands of British roads. And besides, getting past the limit was never the aim here - what we really wanted to do was find traction. Because grip is one of those things you don't fully appreciate until it's gone. You realise this in the moment your pint hits the pub floor. Or when your baby-SUV turns into an unstoppable sleigh. And it's in the second before things get slippy that you'd rather be in the Evoque. If only to keep it looking so bloody good.
