The Veloster has a 1.6 non-turbo engine. This means you have to rev it to get the full 138bhp effect. But because it's a direct-injection for efficiency, it sounds a bit rattly at low revs, and the red line is a fairly low 6,500. Still, the mid-range throttle response is quick and predictable if not very strong, and, towards the red line, it sounds more cheering.
