The Vauxhall's a turbo too, and we've got the middle of the petrol engines, a 1.4 with 138 horses. Even though it has no more mid-range torque than the Scirocco, it makes a far more useful performer because it has enough high-rev gumption to let you have some fun with the chassis, or overtake something faster than a combine harvester. In a saloon, you'd call it slightly coarse, but the bumptious soundtrack isn't out of place here.
