This is the Audi Urban Concept Spyder. It is a roofless version of the quirky 1+1 city car concept we showed you last week. And it is heading for this year's Frankfurt motor show.

It rides on 21in wheels, gets ‘blinking' LED lights and has upwards-opening scissor doors. That, frankly, is all. But we have to fill up more space beneath these words, so you might be interested to know Audi plans to invest £10.1 billion over the next four years, primarily on expanding its model range.

So today's 35 models will soon become 42 by 2015, if everything goes to plan; a plan that includes the electric R8 e-tron. So while these funky 1+1 concepts are ‘technical studies', will they form part of Audi's diabolical plan to carpet bomb the world with new models? And would you actually want one?
