He was superb in qualifying, prodigious in the wet and die-hard when overtaking. He was also partial to wearing the odd pair of white socks, which, as any F1 pundit will agree, is the key to driving success.

As Senna - the biopic of the legendary Formula One driver's life - gets ready for a UK release, we've decided to bring you some imagery from the great man's career. We've seen the film and it really is rather good - you can read our review here.

It hits UK cinemas on 3 June.
