What’s it like to drive a... big MAN army truck
Alarming and reassuring in equal measure, this is off-roading at its most remarkable and ridiculous

These extreme drives are a bit flippant by their very nature. And that's good. Flippant is good. TopGear wouldn't exist without it. But this month things take a more serious tack. This is the MAN HX-77, an eight-wheel-drive, off-road truck that is tasked with supporting frontline British forces in Afghanistan. Serious stuff, but no less extreme for that.
MAN is a German company - see, already serious - and is widely regarded by the truck-junky fringe as the very best if you have to tackle shitty terrain. The Dakar race has a category for entirely self-sufficient racing trucks and they are almost all made by MAN.
