What’s it like to drive a... big MAN army truck
Alarming and reassuring in equal measure, this is off-roading at its most remarkable and ridiculous

The day we tested the HX-77, God or Mother Nature or whoever had decided to give this corner of Bedfordshire a pretty hard time. The ground was frozen beneath a thick layer of snow, and beneath that a good couple of feet of sodden bog was testament to the fact that it hadn't stopped raining for the past week. Not ideal conditions for hitting an incline so steep you couldn't physically walk up it.
The MAN's progress, however, is unchecked. As soon as there's a hint of slip you just lock another diff and with the throttle asking for no more than 1,400rpm to achieve the peak torque of 1,548lb ft, up you go.
