"Morning," he says, as he strides towards us barefoot and slurping from a mug of coffee. "Well, this is a bit rock'n'roll, isn't it?"
Indeed it is. This is the fourth year in a row Evans has mounted a Children In Need fund-raiser, but it's never been quite as spectacular as this. Seven of his listeners have bid a minimum of £25,000 each for a weekend's entertainment, the high point of which is a stint behind the wheel of a variety of Ferraris. Today's itinerary will see this extraordinary convoy head down the M3 and A303, stopping off at various points including the Haynes' motor museum in Sparkford, before winding up at Chewton Glen on the edge of the New Forest, from where Chris will do his usual Radio 2 drivetime show.
