What’s it like to drive a... Douglas Super Tug
What it feels like to drive something with twice the torque of a Bugatti Veyron

There are four steering modes - front-wheel, rear-wheel, crab (where the whole thing shifts on the diagonal) and four-wheel. When Nigel selects four-wheel and swings it hard in the lock, I promptly fall off my seat - no figure-hugging Recaros, see. I then have a go and try accelerating hard in the middle of the corner, but soon find it's tricky to wind the lock off quickly. Cue one near miss of a parked aircraft.
Because all the steering is linked by electronic hydraulics, driving the Douglas in a straight line can also be tricky. I've little idea of what's going on underneath me so end up moving in a zig-zag, constantly adjusting the steering but simply correcting the last direction change, not the current one. It's like being in a permanent tank-slapper. But this is me treating it like a car, which it isn't.
