TG drives Maserati’s GranCabrio
Maserati's GranCabrio is more than a match for the beauties of Rome. Well, apart from the women...

Yet the GranCabrio is shockingly good. If it has a generally aristocratic air about it, then the way it moves develops that sensation nicely. The familiar ZF six-speed transmission suits this car perfectly; there's a smooth, richly engineered feel to it. This helps enormously as you pick your way across about 72 lanes of demented traffic, as does the generally harmonious action of the major controls. The steering feels over-light around town, but it improves with familiarity. This isn't a straining-at-the-leash sports car: even with a high-revving 4.7-litre V8 upfront, it prefers to ooze along. It's cultured, confident and refined.
