TG drives Maserati’s GranCabrio
Maserati's GranCabrio is more than a match for the beauties of Rome. Well, apart from the women...

We leave Rome and head for the hills, towards Tolfa. It might have the city thing licked, but exactly how good a sports car is this? On the autostrada, the GranCabrio's cruisier inclinations start creeping to the fore. This is an imposing car, and it moves with an imposing, impressive authority. Like the Ghibli and Mistral convertibles of old, you can stroke it along, tapping into maybe 30 per cent of its potential, playing tunes with its operatic-sounding V8 when the mood takes you. Just as it is around Rome's piazzas, seducing a city that doesn't usually pay much attention to anything apart from itself, the GranCabrio scythes along with an intoxicating self-regard.
