It's here that the XJ becomes A Very Good Idea. Compared to everything else in this part of Africa - which seems to consist exclusively of ancient Mercedes W123s, Land Rover Defenders or knackered old Fiats - the XJ is a spaceship. Broad, black and stealthy, the XJ cuts through the landscape like it has come from another age. Where everything else is faintly medieval, from the architecture to the bathroom facilities, the big Jag surges effortlessly towards the High Atlas like a massive obsidian bullet.
