The Merc SLS AMG is a big softie

"The ride. I thought the set up in my CLK Black was stiff. I thought it wouldn't be possible to make a car any more rigid. But AMG has managed it. And how."

As you can deduce, Jeremy isn't too enamoured with how the SLS AMG treated his spine. So, this nugget of news will come as manna from James May's engineering heaven: Mercedes has announced the SLS AMG will be offered with an optional AMG ‘Ride Control' sports suspension.

As the name suggests, a new select lever lets you choose between three suspension modes: Comfort, Sport and Sport+. Flicking between the three electronically adjusts the damping to suit different road conditions. Crucially, it introduces ‘Comfort' that Merc says is recommended for cruising at moderate speeds. Sport stiffens the shocks a bit more, while Sport+ is "for fast lap times on a race circuit".
