But things soon improve dramatically. Unlike the wobbly Morgan, the MF5 feels absolutely of a piece. As the road surface dries I can push a lot harder, and the thing just digs in and sails on at a velocity that is borderline insane. It'll hit 62mph in under four seconds and run close to 200mph, but it's the high-revving in-gear savagery that keeps you wide awake.
The Morgan, on the other hand, is a lazy, rumbly old thing, happy to get on with the business at hand once it's been roused, much as you would a shaggy old dog snoozing in front of an open fire. The Aero SS makes a truly heroic noise, courtesy of its twin side-exit exhausts, and you can play baritone tunes just by tickling the throttle. But travelling fast in it isn't the satisfyingly accurate and feedback-drenched experience it is in the Wiesmann. That really is a great car.
