Morgan vs Wiesmann
The old enemies meet again. Morgan fights for England; Wiesmann for Germany. Let battle commence...

You'd need a hefty microscope to track Wiesmann's profile in the UK. The irony is that this tiny German concern - around 1,500 cars in 25 years - is clearly doffing its titfer in the direction of some key classic British sports cars. You don't have to look too hard to see elements of Austin-Healey or AC Cobra in its roadster and coupe models.
While it's tempting to dismiss Wiesmann as a German TVR, the fact is that a) it's alive and kicking rather than pushing up the daisies, and b) its cars are exceptionally well-made and engineered. The limited edition MF5 you see here (55 will be made) runs BMW's 5.0-litre V10 and seven-speed SMG power-train. Check out Wiesmann's website for a glimpse of the firm's new (gecko-shaped) factory HQ, a sleekly modernist building that makes the Morgan mothership look like a ragbag of sheds and prefabs. Which it is.
