Abandoning all hope of ever hearing properly again, I change into third gear, with a double declutch for the authentic muscle car sound effect, the noise subsides and I line the car up for the approaching uphill left-hander. The power-assisted steering - only a few of the later cars had this - is light, very light, requiring none of the shoulder effort I thought it would to get this car to change direction. The brake pedal does. Even though this car has upgraded brakes, it needs a massive shove to make even the slightest difference to your speed.
