Trouble is, at vaguely legal speeds it's a bit dull. It is, in brutal layman's terms, too good to be interesting.
At least the Maser gives you a sense of occasion and challenges you to achieve, say, an acceptable gearchange. The Panamera is a bit like listening to AC/DC from a pub near the arena. It's only really good if you go next door and get your head caved in.
But we found a lot that we liked. The engine sounds great, for example, and there's not much in the way of other nasty road or wind noise to spoil it. The seats are good, the steering is good, and the ride is surprisingly good. Gosh. Fancy that in an £75,000 car.
