It went on like this until we were almost at the other end of the country, when the computer link packed up altogether but, finally, we found ourselves on a proper road. Here, we had to admit that the Porsche worked exactly like a Porsche, and went round bends and what have you with ease and aplomb. Better, in fact, than we were expecting it to. But not as nicely as a 911 would.
Is this a fair comparison? We think it is. We know that any sort of supercar is ultimately pointless as a means of arriving anywhere quickly, at least here in Britain, so the reason you have one is for the theatre, the panto even, and the sense of being part of an indulgent manifestation of automotive art. It's why I don't want a Lambo, but do want other people to have them.
