After a continent of fields and deserts and mountains and emptiness, it was shocking, NY’s sheer volume of cars and people and... stuff. Cabs blared horns and policemen blew whistles, and it took us an hour to move a mile and a half. There was a lot of swearing and the traffic cleared and then, somehow, we were there, the end: after 3,333 miles, on the roof of the Terminal Seven short-stay car park at JFK, a suitably glamorous place to end our journey. Ten minutes to spare.
