In an ideal world, your first time with most things isn't normally witnessed by more than two people. Doesn't exactly help the nerves. By contrast, my first time up the Goodwood Hill, in a Porsche 908/02 Spyder which I've never even sat in, is witnessed by about 100,000 people.
