The dashboard is simple. It consists of a speedo. And that's it. But what more do you need? The thing only has about eight moving parts, so no point worrying about it. There is some suspension - plenty, in fact, for carrying its 499kg weight and keeping some of the bumps at bay. There's no synchromesh, so shifting through the four-speed 'box is best done at a considered pace with a spot of double declutching helping match road and engine speed, and avoiding ugly grinding. And I fell in love with it. Simple as that. The noise, the uncomplicated functionality of it, the simple seats, the metal exposed across the interior, pretty much everything about it, in fact. I can't imagine how any owners of one today could set off in it and not smile until their face ached.
