Tesla has revealed new images of its upcoming electric saloon car, the follow-up to its two-seat Roadster.

It's called the Model S, is roughly the same size as a BMW 5 Series, and comes complete with a variety of battery packs - the most powerful of which has a claimed 300-mile range.

This powertrain is an inverter that takes power from the battery and delivers it to the AC induction motor, which in turn powers the rear wheels - and rear wheels alone - via a fixed gear reduction. Charging via a DC fast charger replenishes the battery in just one hour, and Tesla expects the battery to "retain approximately 70 per cent of its initial capacity after seven years, or 100,000 miles".
