So it always drives like an electric car. Which is good: you get delightful punchy, smooth, near-silent acceleration from rest up to 50mph or so. It's also bad: above 50mph, the acceleration tails off. I wouldn't want to be overtaking trucks on a single-carriageway.
When the engine cuts in, it's just a generator, so the noise is a low background drone. Completely excitement-free, but a whole lot better than the pure-electric alternative of coasting to a halt on the hard shoulder, stricken by a flat battery.
