So, we have but an hour. Best get on with it. John and I post ourselves into the Venom, and sit looking out over a very familiar view: an Exige. Nothing much to that then, apart from a few nicely judged trim pieces. And the Venom experience remains worryingly easy: even when you prod the motor into life, there's not the clanking and whirring, the percussive barking and farting that one might expect, the 6.2-litre twin-turbo V8 simply thumps into life and settles to an easy idle. No huffing or puffing. The clutch is actually lighter than the original Lotus item, the steering similarly twirly. At slow speeds, it has to be said, the Venom is an absolute pussycat. Which makes me suspicious.
