Some will bemoan the loss of the V6 Golf - the R32 and the VR6 that went before it. Let them bemoan. Times they are a changing, ladies and germs, cars need to be more efficient and cleaner than before, so the ultimate Golf now has two fewer cylinders and comes in the shape of this new £30,090 R. It sits proudly at the top of the GTI tree and is possessed of four-wheel drive, 267bhp and a 0-62mph time of 5.7 seconds. And I'm here to tell you that it's a very, very good car indeed.
