Volkswagen Golf R driven
This is the Golf R. It has 267bhp. It has 258lb ft of torque. It has four-wheel drive. And it demands your respect

Sorry to have to put you through all that loan gibberish, but this doesn't happen very often: a car good enough to make me seriously want to buy it. But that's exactly what the Golf R is. It's a grown-up, understated, fairly sensible but still blindingly fast and capable hot hatch. It doesn't have the raw drama of a Focus RS, nor the sheer cornering ability of a Megane RS. It's more comfortable, less in your face, easier to live with. It doesn't replace the old Golf R32, either, because it's much better than that. Think of it as a GTI-R, a smart development of a brilliant car.
Above all, when you see an R on the road, know that its owner deserves respect. Especially because that owner might just be me.
