Is that a problem? Yes, when you want to muck around and do lurid donuts on a snow-covered, deserted airfield in Lincolnshire. But ‘no' 99.9 per cent of the time, for 99.9 per cent of drivers. So gradually, over time - as is the way with fast modern Golfs - you come to understand what the engineers are presenting to you. Drive it with the stability on, drive it as hard as you like, and stay safe doing it. A Golf GTI is not an exciting hot hatch, but it's an incredibly good one, one that grows on you, one that is a joy to own - refined, beautifully made and extremely fast across the ground. Here, it's happening again, growing on you over time.
