What is it?
A budget-priced compact hatch that looks like a saloon. This is similar to the original Toledo that did so well in the 1990s: today’s version is also known as the Skoda Rapid.
It’s a car aimed at markets outside Europe, so the delicacies of driving delight are not top of the attribute list. It’s safe, able but not very exciting. Engines are good though, so long as you avoid the base 1.2 75.
On the inside
A workmanlike interior is well built and very, very spacious... but, again, not very exciting. The fact it has a boot as big as a Ford Mondeo is more important here.
Base E trim is just that, so you’ll need an S to get the creature comforts you expect. Seat has tested the Toledo tirelessly to ensure it’s reliable no matter how badly you treat it, and the engines are pretty eco too.
