I think they hit the nail on the head, the electric car is the future, but is held back by the achilles heel of the battery. But some people did research and said the average commuter does not do more than like 30 miles a day, so use battery powered veichles for city driving, then their chicken wire idea for motorways. The problem with the chicken wire though is that it would be extremely expensive to run and gypsies will steal the wire and cause the motorways to halt

For now I believe the hybrid system, as good as the Chevy Volt, is the way to go.Carry your own charger for the batteries. Other manufacturers are following with their own models. This adds versatility to the electric car. It took decades, and rise in personal wealth, to make the modern car practical. The electric, or hydrogen, powered vehicle is on its early stages of development, along with its infrastructure. This report covers serious issues in a rather light tone as per Top Gear philosophy. Well done, guys!

Great video re: electric cars, very entertaining and insightful. I think it would have been interest to perhaps include a bit more about the economic of the whole electric car thing though. Subsidies, tax breaks, government grants, tax-credits; all this stuff at every stage of production, marketing and selling. Electric cars are loaded with grubernment money. What the consumer pays for them in no way covers, or likely never will cover, what they cost to build. That's the real problem, they can't stand on their own business wise. That's their real Achilles heal.

The Top Gear guys are great at taking things out of context, which is exactly what happened here. You don;t take a Porsche 911 to buy furniture, you don;t take a Range Rover to the track, and you don't try to drive an electric car further than its range. There are places in the world where a gas car will run out of fuel and no place to refuel it. So lets take it in context, and that's how things make sense.

Great. I think electric cars are the future. But it does take a long time to charge them! They need to fix that. I prefer the nissan leaf. Moff24
