That is ballsy doing that in a small town in the southern states. I live in San Diego been to all the southern states even lived down in ole Miss for a year, and the one thing you do not do is stand out bunch of God fearing christian folks down there and they do not take kindly to outsiders you must adapt to your surroundings. But very funny and stupid at the same time.

i'm from lafayette, louisiana and that must be solely an alabama thing. my jaw dropped when i saw that. in most southern states you will get alot of people laughing and pointing, but that happening no. that's really embarrassing. either way, i love the show and the u.s. is devoid of a show like this. you guys should do more of these u.s. trips. there are alot of interesting places to drive.

I live in central Florida (despite what Jeremy said, I assure you it's a lovely place to live), and just recently drove to New Orleans for a weekend. We drove through Alabama at top speed with the doors locked. However, I have to tell you all that every southerner we met in Mississippi and Louisiana were the nicest people I have ever met in my entire life. They were all absolute sweethearts. You guys just seem to be a magnet for crazy rednecks. Also, I just want to add that New Orleans is still, after 5 years, in rough shape from Katrina. We took a wrong exit and ended up in the Ninth Ward. We had no idea things were still so bad. Despite everything they've been through the people of New Orleans are still upbeat and hopeful, and the city is absolutely wonderful. Donations can still be made to the New Orleans chapter of Habitat for Humanity, a charity which builds homes. http://www.habitat-nola.org/

I love this episode it makes me crack up. Maybe next time they come to the states they should go to a northern state in the middle of winter. Nothing would be better than having a challenge in the dead of winter and drive from Montana to Minnesota.

Upon the entering New Orleans, I can assure that the rest of the country wasn't sleeping. Katrina caused devastation beyond anything we can ever wrap our minds around. Even this many years later. Yes most see us as simply ignorant, rude, arrogant, overbearing....well you get the idea. Wish you could see (most of) America as we truely are. Anyway, I love your show, we need more BBC in the states

Clarkson's comment about the richest nation in the world not doing anything about the Katrina-New Orleans devastation is really borne of ignorance. The damage from Katrina was far beyond what anyone imagined, made worse by ill-prepared incompetent/corrupt public officials, and city planners that allowed housing developments BELOW sea level with levees not meant to withstand the forces let loose upon them. So, what are we doing about it? We're rebuilding the levees (not wise IMHO), and the city. It's taking a lot more money to re-build, than it would had we just improved the levees before Katrina. Large areas are still a wasteland because the people that were forced to flee, have stayed away choosing to not suffer this kind of trauma again (and I can't blame them for that).

Of course Hammond's first visit to America has him getting yelled at by a she bear. The place isn't all bad just the cars, most of the people, most of the tv shows, and the laws for everything are a bit too strict. (For defense of the bad cars, Ford Focus RS made by an American company, best version of the car, not sold in America) (As for the laws US trip 2 a lot had to be cut out of the video and that cop yelled at them for revving their engines a little too loud)

I was talking about this with some of my friends here in the US. We thought we'd go to England, buy a vintage Range Rover, Triumph TR3 and a Jag XJ. On the Range Rover we'd paint QUEEN ELIZABETH IS A FRAUD on one side and DOWN WITH THE MONARCHY on the other. On the Triumph we'd paint BRITISH FOOTBALLERS ARE SISSY GIRLY MEN. Finally, on the Jag, WANNA DIET? VISIT ENGLAND. On the other side, THERE IS NOTHING IN BRITAIN THAT'S EDIBLE. On the back window we'd put IF HAGGIS DOESN'T RUIN YOUR APPETITE, NOTHING WILL. Just out of curiosity, how far would we get before being stoned to death.
