"Wheel spin on a steam train!" Oh, yeah, I can see that's just the kind of thing to impress Jeremy! Risking to sound meticulous: er-m, it’s not a >> steam train <<, Jeremy, it’s a steam locomotive, the consist of coaches behind the tender are the train proper – and by the way: unlikely as it may sound to a car buff, steam locos are addressed as a ‘she’, oh yes, especially so in Britain! Starting out of York she kind ‘a gave you a discrete reminder of her name – Tornado – that’s all, Jeremy *g* Come on, lend a helping hand, there’s no space for talkers in a steam loco’s cab! = J =

Gee, I could have told you that before! „Bacon just flew out of the top of our train!“ Well, if so, Jeremy. I’d rather guess it was consumed by the intense heat inside the firebox before it even reached the tubes! Frying something at the fire door: it can be done – but not with a decent duct of air by the draughting acting on the shovel blade with the engine at full cry. You do it while at rest: there is no draught on the fire other than natural up-lift of hot gasses through the boiler from grate to chimney top and the fire is much less intense. Oh, and never wrap aluminum foil around your meal or you might learn about melting temperatures – *g* = J =

“They told me that coal fired eggs were delicious – they were lying” Well, it’s probably a question of the brand of coal, you know – er-m – or so they say. I have to admit, when in a steam loco’s cab in Poland in the nineties, a long time ago, I did “uh-h” away a little something offered. It felt mean, but we’re simply not adjusted to the taste of it, aren’t we? = J =
