Ready the abacuses: we've got a whole load more numbers on the 370Z, Nissan's new Z-car that's set to reach UK roads early next year.
That '370' is a good place to start: the Zed gets a heavily revised version of the 350Z's 3.5-litre V6, bored out to 3.7 litres and putting out 327hp – 18hp more than its predecessor.
It's a revvier unit, too – the 370Z delivers its peak power at 7000rpm and doesn't hit the redline until a rather loony 7500rpm.
All that in a car that's shorter and lighter than the 350Z: the 370Z weighs in at 3,232 lbs, a significant drop of 341lbs. It's almost four inches shorter both in the wheelbase and from bumper to bumper, a reduction that Nissan says should tighten up the Zed's notoriously pushy handling.
There's something exciting going on in the transmission department, too: the Zed's standard six-speed manual gearbox gets something called "SynchroRev Match" which blips the throttle automatically on downshifts to make you look like a bit of a hero driver.
There's a seven-speed auto available, too – but why would you?
Prices are expected to rise slightly over the outgoing 350Z: expect to pay around $30,000 for the standard 370Z, with a jump of $4,000 or so for the higher-spec GT edition.
It looks like they put the old 350Z in the Microwave and melted it. It’s got softer lines, and the headlights are dripping all over the place. I’m sorta repulsed by it…
I think the “SynchroRev Match” is pretty cool… but that removes the fun of a heel-toe downshift (or at least the need for a good heel-toe).
my dad has the 350. its a decent lil sports car. but i really love this
That’s an excellent way to look at it Wells. You hit the nail on the head. The only part of the car that is still iffy for me is the headlight design. It just doesn’t work that well for me… a negligible detail, you’re right.
The styling is a bit edgy, but it is a young person’s car. It doesn’t matter if the front looks like a manta-ray or the back droops like an M coupe, it’d look perfect parked in front of a college dorm.
I really like the new 370… a lot. The front end really took some time to grow on me, but consider there to be a full-fledged goiter on my body because I think this car is great.
