Aston’s New Gentleman Racer

astons-new-gentleman-racer

Barely a week goes by without some exciting news from Aston Martin. So if you're bored of the Bond car stuff, or the One-77 story, how about this - the new Vantage GT4?

It's the replacement for the N24 - the car that's been around since 2006, and often raced by Aston chief Dr Bez. The Vantage GT4 is a similar off-the-shelf racer, and will slot into loads of different race series' over the world (most obviously, er, GT4 championships...).

Gentleman racers will be pleased then, especially as it's got some juicy updates. The engine is now 4.7-liters rather 4.3, with an ECU setup especially for racing. The exhaust and air filters are freedfrom their road-going shackles to increase power, and the whole thing is 660 lbs. lighter than the standard car.

You can choose from a six-speed manual or Sportshift with paddles. There's a quick-release steering wheel and Recaro competition seats too. Thankfully, the suspension and brakes are lightly modified, so there's less chance of crashing your new $144K car...(that's where prices start).

Bring on next season.

Testicle retraction is nothing to shake a stick at.  It’s one of the defining signs of a true automobile.

I like that business suit analogy a lot, Psymon… because it absolutely rings true!

Everytime I hear N24, I think Nintendo 64.  The only way the N24 could have been improved would be if it had an N64 in it, or on it, or if it had an N64 rear spoiler.  Anyways, the N24 was NOT sophisticated.  When James May drove it in TG, his left testicle retracted into May’s lower abdomen, because it was so scared of the raw power that was coursing through the car 2 feet below.  This left the right testicle screaming in horror as it drove down mountain passes at 70MPH.

There’s just something so sophisticated about Aston Martin… but they’re also REALLY quick. Think marathon runner in a fine business suit…
