Game of the Month: NASCAR 09

game-of-the-month-nascar-09

Oval racing tends not to excite us. It's not until you watch it on TV that you understand what a compelling sectator sport it is. The radio coverage and the in-car cameras that spin round to show you a drafting move and the drivers eyes. All of this is portrayed in NASCAR09 with so much polish that you can get swept away with it all, blinded by the intense corporate bombardment, being assaulted by logos everywhere you look. The inclusion of Jeff Gordan as your guide isn't as bad as it sounds, as he leads you through the process of setting up your team, painting your car and decorating it with decals, then getting your first sponsorship - we got an offer from Whoa Nelly brake shoes...

The racing is surprisingly good when you get into the nuances of drafting and blocking to help your teammates. The racing is broken up with yellow flag crash replays, which prevents you from getting bored. Surprisingly good.

I think I’m go to check out DiRT now… Canadians have good ideas.  Thank you.

I played the demo and thought it ways a lot better than ‘08 but still kinda sucked.  It certain doesn’t feel like the cars really do.  I wish EA didn’t have exclusivity.

Just bought the new Need For Speed, I’ll stick to that and DiRT.
DiRT (rally precursor to GRID^) is easily one of the most entertaining and graphics-intensive games I’ve every played.

Graphics do look good…I might just have to rent it for those nights I want to sit in my recliner for hours with a beer and turn left but honestly the only way I’m buying this game is if I get a free pair of Piloti’s with it.

I think I’m going to stick with GRID, but hats off to them because the graphics look pretty good.
